Founding Principle
The founding principle of Shukutoku University, “
利他共生 ,” means to “
be made alive by others, make others alive, and live together,” which is a philosophy based on the spirit of Mahayana Buddhism. Mahayana Buddhism believes that not only priests
who have undergone rigorous ascetic practices, but also anyone who has faith will be saved, like riding on a large vehicle, and for this purpose, regards “
自利利他 ,” that is, to practice and strive for the perfection of one’s own personality,
and to do one’s best to make others alive, as an ideal.
