At Shukutoku University, which is known as “the university of welfare,” a welfare mind is rooted in all learning, and students are working on their practical learning to acquire the ability to be active in society. Our university’s “practical education” refers to (1) learning based on demonstration, (2) learning through practice, and (3) learning leading to self-realization, and is addressed in education at each college and school.

In coming FY2023, “S-basic,” a university-wide basic education subject, will be newly established as the foundation of university-wide basic education so that “the basic learning unique to Shukutoku” will be provided at all colleges and schools, and furthermore, “Shukutoku’s learning” will also be reflected in specialized education courses. To that end, we are working on systematization. Furthermore, in 2023, we will newly open the “Community Symbiosis Center, Shukutoku University (tentative name)” to further promote volunteer and collaborative activities in the community.

Opportunities for learning at our university are expanding to classes and extracurricular activities, places of learning are expanding from the campus to the community, and research at the Asian Research Institute for International Social Work and other graduate schools, to the world.

International students who wish to study at our college or graduate school are required to take the entrance examination for the college or school for international students. Since the classes are basically conducted in Japanese, it is necessary to acquire Japanese skills. Currently, international students are enrolled mainly in the College of Business Administration and the College of Integrated Human and Social Welfare Studies, deepening their learning, and are also entering graduate school (Social Welfare Studies Course) to further deepen their researches. As for the support system for international students, the International Exchange Center has been established to support their learning and living, and also various scholarships are available.

Furthermore, the Asian Research Institute for International Social Work (ARIISW), a distinctive research institute of our university, conducts investigation and research in international social welfare and social work in Asia and the world, as well as Buddhism social welfare / social work in Asia. If you are interested in the research, please visit the links below.

Shukutoku University opens up education and research opportunities not only in Japan but also around the world. If you are interested, please feel free to contact us and get in touch with our learning and research.
